Burial Plots for Non-Residents of Gush Etzion

The following are the terms of purchase for burial plots in the Gush Etzion Regional Cemeteries.

Terms and Costs

  • Single Plot: USD $9,000
  • Double Plot: USD $16,200 (for two plots; 10% discount)
  • Funeral Costs: USD $3,000 (per deceased)
  • Bulk Purchase: 10% discount on purchases of 10 plots or more

Examples:

  • Total cost for 1 single plot (including funeral): USD $12,000
  • Total cost for 2 separate plots (including funerals): USD $24,000
  • Total cost for 1 double plot (including funerals): USD $22,200

Definitions

  • Single Plot: One person interred in one plot in the ground.
  • Double Plot: A single grave space for two people, buried one above the other, with a vertical separation of 60 cm. Both are buried in the ground (not a Sanhedrin-style or wall plot).

Price Includes

  • Reservation of the burial plot (not including the gravestone)
  • Airport fees in Israel (not including air transport costs from abroad)
  • Transport from airport to Gush Etzion
  • Tahara (if required)
  • Shrouds
  • Funeral service and burial in Gush Etzion

  • The Chevra Kadisha will issue a receipt and deed for each purchase.
  • Payments may be made in up to 6 installments.
  • Payment in foreign currency will be recognized only once the full net amount in NIS is deposited into the account of the Gush Etzion Religious Council. Any deductions (bank fees, credit card commissions, exchange rate differences, etc.) will not be considered part of the payment.

Terms and Conditions

  • Use of the burial plot must comply with the laws, directives, and minhagim of the Chevra Kadisha of Gush Etzion.
  • Burial and handling of the deceased will follow the customs and regulations of the Chevra Kadisha.
  • Gravestones:
      – Must comply with Chevra Kadisha regulations.
      – Maximum height: approx. 60 cm above ground.
        – Flat gravestones only, using local stone.
        – Inscription must be engraved or filled (not protruding), with no images or pictures, and coordinated with the Chevra Kadisha.
  • Burial plots may not be transferred to another party, during life or after death, without prior written approval of the Chevra Kadisha directorate.
  • Rights to the burial plot are valid only after full payment has been received.
  • Refunds are possible only if no use has been made of the plot (or in the case of a double plot, no use of either part).
  • The right to a burial plot is a personal right of the purchaser. It cannot be transferred, sold, or bequeathed to a third party.

Refunds and Cancellations

  • If the purchaser passes away and is buried elsewhere, or if there are material changes to the purchaser’s personal details (as determined by the Chevra Kadisha), the plot reverts to the Chevra Kadisha, and the family will be refunded the purchase price, linked to the Cost-of-Living Index.
  • If burial becomes impossible due to government policy, court rulings, or municipal decisions, the Chevra Kadisha will refund the purchase price, linked to the Cost-of-Living Index.
  • The purchaser may cancel the purchase at any time. In such cases, the purchase price (including burial-day costs) will be refunded, linked to the Cost-of-Living Index, less administrative and bank transfer fees.
  • In the case of a double plot where only the bottom plot has been used, the Chevra Kadisha reserves the right to bury another deceased in the upper grave.

Dispute Resolution

Any dispute between the purchaser (or their heirs) and the Chevra Kadisha will be submitted to the Gush Etzion Beit Din for Monetary Matters, in accordance with the Adjudication Law.
